4th Annual Poker Run
The 4th annual no-motor poker run on Long and Miskwabi Lakes pushed the paddling skills and mental drive of participants this past Saturday, July 19th with a whole range of weather showing up to play! The event started with overcast skies, then boaters encountered some rain to add a little motivation, and then all were treated to a beautiful sunny afternoon to cap off the event (and to help enjoy their hard-earned ice creams).
The event was enjoyed by participants of all ages, in a variety of watercrafts. The lake was still and perfect for paddlers, pedalers, and spectators alike.
The crowd cheered on incoming vessels toward the end of the run, and prizes were awarded to the best and least-best poker hands.
This event has proven to be a well-attended and well-loved gathering enabling everyone to get out to enjoy the lake and socialize with their neighbours. If anyone is on the fence about participating next year, you are encouraged to come and take part in the fun! The more the merrier, and novices are very welcome.
Thank you to all the volunteers for handing out the cards and treats, and to Steve Dyce for coordinating and headlining the event.
See you on the water next year, let’s aim for a record turn out for the big 5th annual milestone!
